Getting Ready for Boxes of Love

Young boy holding a Box of LoveThe calendar said November, but the children danced around the room shouting, "Is it Christmas?"

Their confusion came from the big box that just been delivered — a Box of Love. Peeking out the top were stuffed animals, and inside was more food than they had seen in a long time.

In fact, the cupboards in the tiny Brooklyn apartment were so empty that Miriam, one of the deliverers, quietly went back to the church van and got a second Box. She couldn’t bear to see this family with not enough to eat.

The woman who lived in the apartment, Carla, was disabled. That was hard enough. But through a series of unfortunate circumstances, her daughter and her three grandchildren were forced to move in with her. Five folks in a small, 3-room apartment!

Before she left, Miriam asked if she could pray for the family. Not only did she pray for them — God also used her to lead both Carla and her daughter to the Lord!

Churches that distribute Boxes of Love receive special training that equips them not only to deliver food but also to present the good news of the Gospel. Year after year they open doors and open hearts.

Here’s Life will again provide this much-needed gift to hungry children and their families at Thanksgiving. The gift is not just the food, but also the connection with compassionate Christians from nearby churches.

      Families like Carla’s are waiting.
