The Impact of a Box of Love

Delivering Boxes of Love to ChildrenThe pile of empty beer bottles…the yard littered with trash…the house with no number — it was not an inviting sight for the team delivering the Box of Love.

Not sure if it was the right home, Chris, representing St. Paul Church in Bakersfield, California, left the Box in the car and knocked on the door. It was opened by Michael, 15, who said yes, they were expecting the gift.

As Chris and Michael walked to the car to get the Box, she asked him if he had any spiritual interest. "No," was his quick reply. But as they walked, Chris asked a few more questions, and Michael’s interest was stirred.

He took the Box of Love into the house, but then he came back out. He wanted to hear more. Chris shared the gospel with him and, despite the distraction of people walking by, Michael was focused on their conversation.

In the end, he prayed, asking Jesus into his life! He has since been enfolded into the church.

Stories like this occur all over the country when Boxes of Love are given to people in great need. The complete Thanksgiving meal meets physical needs, and the contact with caring Christians meets spiritual needs.

In St. Paul, Minnesota, a woman put her faith in Christ when she came to a church to receive a promised Box of Love. She was greeted by friendly church members and offered hot cider, home-baked cookies, and spiritual conversation.

In New York, a family steeped in voodoo came to know Christ as a result of receiving a Box of Love.

In Los Angeles, a Spanish-speaking family – a single mom with three small children – was drawn into the church after receiving a Box of Love from a team of African-Americans.

In Louisville, six in one family — a mother, her 14-year-old triplets, her grown daughter, and an 8-year-old granddaughter — all accepted Jesus.

In Chicago, a dad struggling with life-controlling problems, along with his five children, opened their hearts to Christ.

What great joy to get a glimpse of how God uses Boxes of Love!
