Delicious Door Openers

Two girls -- not the ones in the story -- enjoy their Easter bags.Lots of children, a tiny apartment, and a dad who struggled with addictions — Martha’s neighbors had a hard life. Martha longed to reach out to them, but she wasn’t sure how to connect. She prayed that God would open the door.

Then Martha’s church in Queens, NY, received Easter Bags from Here’s Life, filled with sweet treats, Beanie Babies, toys, an Easter coloring book and crayons. Around the neck of the stuffed animal was a beaded bracelet explaining the gospel message.

Martha scooped up enough Easter Bags for her neighbors’ children, and she and a friend knocked on their door.

When the door opened, the apartment was even more crowded than usual. Isabel and her children, plus Isabel’s sister and her children, were there, and it quickly became clear this was a time of crisis in both families.

Martha asked if she could pray for them, and they readily agreed. Then she brought out the Easter Bags, and the children eagerly tore through them. They asked what was special about the beaded bracelet. Everyone gathered around as Martha went through the gospel using the different colored beads.

When they came to the end, she asked if they would like to ask Jesus into their lives — and everyone did! Together — moms and children — prayed a prayer of salvation.

An Easter Bag is a pretty humble tool, but God seems to use it in big ways. Please give generously to this year’s outreach.
