An Easter Challenge

Through the years Easter Bags have proven to be an extremely effective tool in the process of presenting the Good News to children. The challenge was issued, and the youth responded with creativity and courage.

What they heard: Make this an Easter for evangelism.

What they did: They planned an Easter Eggstravaganza, which featured Here’s Life Inner City Easter Bags.

The youth — 12-15 years old — of Elim Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, devised a plan to reach the children in the community around their church. They put together Gospel bead bracelets, and they wrote a rap song that explained the message of the colored beads.

On Palm Sunday they went into the community and invited children to their Easter event. They handed out fliers with all the details, including the promise of an Easter Bag filled with sweet treats and a toy. They put a beaded bracelet on each child’s wrist, encouraging them to learn the order of the colors and telling them, “You’ll learn more about the colors when you come to the Eggstravaganza next week.” They got names and phone numbers so they could call with a reminder.

The day before Easter, 25 neighborhood children showed up at Elim, joining nine children from the church. They first received the coloring book from the Easter Bag that told about God’s plan, and they colored some of the pictures.

Then the youth did their rap, explaining the message of the Gospel bracelet. After lunch, all the children gathered to watch The Story of Jesus for Children, and at the end of the film, five children indicated they wanted to open their hearts to the Lord!

When all the children left, each was given the gift of an Easter Bag.

The bracelets, the toys, the treats, the Gospel materials — through the years Easter Bags have proven to be an extremely effective tool in the process of presenting the Good News to children. Pray that many children come to faith this Easter.
