The Box of Love
The purpose of the Box of Love outreach is to provide a Thanksgiving meal to a family who might not otherwise have one. Each Box of Love feeds a family of six.
Each box holds a turkey or ham or chicken (depending on what is culturally appropriate to the neighborhood), along with vegetables, potatoes, stuffing, juice, yams, apple or cranberry sauce, bread, fruit, dessert, and more ... plus Scriptures and children’s literature.
Feel free to add extras, but these are the basics:
- 2 14½-oz. cans of green beans or peas.
- 2 15¼-oz. cans of corn or mixed vegetables.
- 1 29-oz. can of yams or sweet potatoes.
- 2 8-oz. boxes of brownie mix (or 1 box of cake mix & prepared frosting).
- 1 24-oz. container of drink mix (just add water).
- 1 15-oz. box of instant potatoes.
- 2 8-oz. boxes of muffin mix.
- 1 30-oz. can of fruit.
A convenient box size is 10"W X 9"H X 15"L.
Here's Life will add the meat, a New Testament, and gospel material. If you are able, a gift of $10–15 will help us cover the cost of the meat and distribution. Please make a check out to Here's Life Inner City and enclose it in an envelope and put it in your unsealed box. (Alternatively, you can cover the entire cost of a Box of Love and its distribution with a gift of $36.71. You can make a gift online by clicking here.)
Call us at (407) 249-8390 or email us to arrange to drop off your items.
This year we are distributing at least 500 Boxes of Love, enough to feed a holiday meal to 3000 people. Packing and delivery is November 21 at First Alliance Church, 3800 Lake Underhill Road, Orlando 32803 (map). |
